Down to the Wire

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed with the tasks at hand; by the unknown that is to come; by your present apathy?

This week I have been overwhelmed to the point of paralysis. My mind is always racing, my heart pounding, my stomach nauseous.

The good news: after 2 weeks, 3 assignments, 2 take home finals, 2 exams, $2200, a flight, a visa, freedom begins!

Other news: I received my first quote on a flight, only $1600. Score.

Please keep praying for finances, peace, passion, and finishing well.

What to Pray For:

Pray for the nation of Thailand, that God would move in the lives of the Thai people, that He would be glorified and known among this nation.

Pray for the Burmese population in Thailand, for those living in a refugee camp, for the orphaned children, for those who are discriminated against in a place that allows it. Pray that the Burmese living in Thailand would be recognized as a viable and needed part of society, that they would find meaningful community in their current life situations, that they would truly be accepted among the Thai.

Pray for the nation of Burma, for the 2000 political prisoners, for the people living in fear of freedom, for oppressed and the oppressor, for the political party in power and the overall leadership of this nation. Pray that prisoners would be released, prisoners within a physical prison and those who are imprisoned to power. Pray for peace, not in a merely earthly sense, but a shalom that will rest upon this land and in the hearts of its inhabitants.

Pray for finances in my internship, that support would continue to come in, that all of the needs would be provided for.

Pray for a decently priced flight, pray that vaccines would not be horrendously expensive, and that all the other details would come together all for the glory of God.

Here it comes!

Reality hits hard when you decide to finally face what's coming. I'm not sure that I had been avoiding the fact that I am done school in 3 weeks, that I have 10 assignments to finish, and that in 40 days I will be in Thailand... But I feel like I've taken a hit in realizing that this is coming fast.

I had a wonderful introductory conversation with Peter Dove yesterday morning. Peter is the founding missionary, along with his wife Cavelle, of Imagine Thailand. I have yet to meet him in person, and after our conversation I am very much looking forward to it! We discussed various ministries of IT that I will be involved with while I'm there, when I can come, how long, exactly, I'll stay, where I'll live when I'm there... Answers to pressing questions!

In the next week or so I need to book flights, apply for a visa, look into the necessary vaccines, complete an absurd amount of paperwork, contact my supervisors in Mae Sot, and continue with the fundraising. So much. So little time.

WANT TO BE INVOLVED?

I am looking for several people to commit to being part of my prayer team as I'm getting ready to go, but especially while I'm on the field. Interested?

I am also still fundraising, as I have already mentioned, several times. I have $2346 pledged, and hopefully that will come in within the next week or so, but I still need $2654-$3500 in the next month. I've asked people who want to donate to commit to at least $100. Interested?

Stay tuned for more updates as the departure date nears!

Only weeks away...

Standing on the edge of the border of Burma, watching Karen and Thai people casually paying the 30 baht to take the "ferry", an old inner tube from a truck tire, across the river between their home nations, all signs of Burmese military regime and reign hidden... This is the moment my heart began becoming tied in interest to these neighbouring countries.

It's been months in the making. When I was last in Mae Sot, Thailand I began dreaming that this would be the location of my upcoming internship with Vanguard College. And here it is, a reality. It seems still slightly unimaginable that in two months time from today I will be living in Thailand.

Let me catch you up to speed. I am in my third year at Vanguard College, studying missions. As part of the fulfillment of my degree, I need to participate in a 2-6 month internship, which I have been accepted to do with Imagine Thailand! I will be leaving early in January and living in Southeast Asia until the end of April. This will be my longest experience overseas to date, and I am so looking forward to it.

Before I can leave there is a long list of things to do, including fundraising. I have raised just over $1000 but I still need $4000 in the next month to make this happen. If you are interested in supporting me, ask me how!
